Maine Vegetable and Small Fruit Growers Association

Membership Benefits

The Benefits of Belonging to MVSFGA

Who We Are
We are a group of over 120 commercial vegetable and small fruit growers in Maine. We represent an important part of Maine’s economy.

Our members represent the state’s finest vegetable producers, brokers, packers, and shippers, the Maine Department of Agriculture, University of Maine Extension, and Agricultural Businesses.

Our voice at monthly Agricultural Council of Maine meetings, at Board of Pesticide Meetings, at Ag Day in the Legislature, and at legislative hearings dealing with Agricultural Issues is loud and clear. We also represent our industry at the U of ME Board of Agriculture, University of Maine Extension, and other appropriate committees as they arise.

Continuing Education

  • Twilight meetings are hosted each summer by members at their farms.
  • Each January, we hold a day- long meeting on Wednesday of the Maine Agricultural Trade Show that includes several speakers and our annual meeting.
  • Each member is issued their own copy of the New England Small Fruit Management Guide and the New England Vegetable Management Guide.
  • We support the continuing vegetable and fruit work at Highmoor Farm in Monmouth by University of Maine Extension.
  • Our web site connects growers with the latest news concerning disease and IPM issues.
  • Our web site makes you aware of meetings going on that might apply to you.
  • We Co-sponsor Maine Vegetable and Small Fruit Schools with the University of Maine Extension.

Promotional Activities
Our website offers growers the opportunity to advertise their business and the opportunity for buyers to locate them.

The public section of the site includes our Home Page, Membership Information, a Consumer’s Page that links to growing information, health information, University of Maine Extension, recipes, and the ability to help consumers link to local growers across Maine. It also includes our Sponsor’s Page, and a Classified Section where members may list items for sale or swap and needs.

The Members-Only section of the site includes a calendar of events including twilight meetings and organizational meetings. It includes our Membership Contact list, as well as a Producer’s Page which provides links for IPM updates, the New England Vegetable Guide, and other producer information needs. It archives our MVSFGA Newsletter, and provides a Farmer to Farmer Blog where we help each other.

We publish and email out newsletters four to five times a year filled with updates, news about Agricultural legislation, and Maine issues. These are also archived on the web site for members.
